Who We Are

The National Association of Savings and Credit Unions (NASCU) is the apex body for Savings and Credit Cooperatives (SACCOs) in Zambia, mandated to promote a strong, sustainable, and unified cooperative financial sector. Established as the central coordinating institution for the SACCO movement, NASCU plays a pivotal role in shaping the sector’s strategic direction and ensuring its continued relevance in advancing financial inclusion.

As an umbrella organisation, NASCU is wholly owned by its member SACCOs, who collectively serve as its shareholders, governance contributors, and primary stakeholders. This cooperative ownership structure reinforces NASCU’s commitment to member-driven leadership, transparency, and accountability. The Association serves a diverse network of SACCOs ranging from small, community-based institutions to large, sophisticated cooperatives serving thousands of members across the country.

Through its leadership, representation, and operational support functions, NASCU works to strengthen SACCO governance, enhance regulatory compliance, expand institutional capacity, and promote innovation in member-driven financial services. Guided by cooperative values and national development priorities, NASCU remains dedicated to fostering a vibrant SACCO ecosystem that empowers citizens, builds economic resilience, and contributes meaningfully to Zambia’s socio-economic development.

Our Role as an Apex Body

The National Association of Savings and Credit Unions (NASCU) serves as the apex body for Savings and Credit Cooperatives (SACCOs) in Zambia, providing leadership, coordination, and strategic direction to the sector. As the umbrella organisation representing member SACCOs, NASCU's mandate is to strengthen the growth, sustainability, and impact of SACCOs while upholding cooperative principles and promoting financial inclusion nationwide.

NASCU plays a multifaceted role in the SACCO ecosystem, including:
